About Our Tour & Children

Thank you for supporting our Elephant Retreat. We are often asked if our tours are suitable for kids. We offer four different programs daily: a full-day tour, a half-day AM tour, and a half-day PM tour. We also provide a Mahout feeding experience. Below is our guidance concerning the various tours and children.

The Feeding Experience & Half-Day AM Tour: The feeding experience lasts approximately one hour, while the half-day AM tour lasts 3.5 hours. We feel that both tours are suitable for all ages, with no restrictions. On the half-day AM tour, we hike into the jungle with the elephants. There is one spot about 15-20 meters (45′ to 60′) at a 45° angle. An adult will need to assist children under the age of six.

Full & Half Day PM Tour: Th full day tour last eight hours while the PM tour last 4 hours. We have added a few videos below, which allow you to view two parts of the journey that may need your attention if your child is younger than 6 years old. Children love to climb, but we feel compelled to point this out. All of us are parents and each of us understand our kids and what their abilities are. We have had children as young as one-year-old complete the tour. At that age, they require the full attention of a parent. Children aged 2-5, we believe, will require most of your attention while hiking along the river with the elephants, swimming with the elephants, and having the waterfall experience.  As we cross the river the depth of the water is between 30 to 45cm (12″ to 18″). The river is somewhat rocky. The hike to the waterfall is not dangerous, but parents with kids under 6 will want to pay additional attention.

Once we hike down to the waterfall, there is a bridge that is approximately 30m (60′) long. This crossing requires 100% of a parent’s attention for kids six or younger. Once we cross the bridge, we make our way to the edge of the waterfall. This, too, requires a parent’s full attention for kids six and under. We do not recommend that kids under ten swim while at the waterfall. The waterfall can be visited and enjoyed without crossing the bridge.

The video below by the Vlogger is especially good as it shows each component of the tour. You may also wish to check out the video directly below the vlogger, which was done in Thai with subtitles.
